Ragi Semiya Upma

Ragi Semiya Upma is one of the healthy and delicious breakfast recipe. Ragi / Finger Millet is highly nutritious and is rich in calcium, protein, iron.

Ragi Semiya Upma

 Ingredients:

  • Ragi Semiya - 200 grams
  • Onion - 1 (finely chopped)
  • Tomato - 1 (finely chopped)
  • Green chilli -  2 or 3 (chopped)
  • Grated coconut - 1/4 cup
  • Channa dhal - 1 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 tbsp
  • Curry leaves - 4 or 5 leaves
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
 

Method:
  1. Soak Ragi Semiya in water for about 3 minutes.
  2. Drain the water using a strainer and steam it in a idly pot for about 5 minutes.
  3. Allow to cool for a few minutes.
  4. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds. Once the mustard seeds splutter, add channa dhal and curry leaves.
  5. When the channa dhal turns slight brown, add the onions, green chilli and saute.
  6. Once the onions are translucent, add tomatoes, salt and saute well until they are soft.
  7. Now add the steamed ragi semiya and mix well.
  8. Lower the flame and allow to cook for 3 minutes.
  9. Finally add grated coconut and stir well, allow to cook for 2 minutes.
  10. Remove from heat and serve hot.
