Dal fry

Dal fry is a popular Indian recipe. In this recipe, lentils are cooked with aromatic spices and ghee giving it a rich flavor. It goes well with steamed rice , jeera rice and rotis.

Dal fry

 Ingredients:
  • Toor Dhal - 1 cup
  • Onion - 1 (finely chopped)
  • Tomato - 2 (chopped)
  • Garlic - 3 or 4 cloves (chopped)
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1/4 tbsp
  • Jeera / Cumin seeds - 1 tbsp
  • Curry leaves - 4 or 5 leaves
  • Red chillies - 2 
  • Coriander leaves - 2 tbsp
  • Ghee - 2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
 

Method:
  1. Pressure Cook toor dhal with water along with turmeric powder until the dhal is mushy.
  2. Once the dhal is cooked, mash the dhal well.
  3. Heat ghee in a pan add mustard seeds, after they splutter add cumin seeds.
  4. Now add red chillies, curry leaves.
  5. Add garlic and saute, then add onions and saute until onions are transparent.
  6. Now add tomatoes and saute until the tomatoes are soft.
  7. Then add cooked dhal, required amount of salt and water and mix well.
  8. Simmer and allow to boil for 5 minutes.
  9. Now add coriander leaves and stir.
  10. Turn off heat and serve hot with rice.
