Simple potato fry / Urulai kizhangu varuval

Potato fry are all time kids favourite. This is a simple and quick potato fry with very little ingredients but tastes delicious. In this recipe I have used normal potatoes but baby potatoes will be perfect for this recipe.

Potato fry

  • Potatoes - 2
  • Red chilly powder - 1 tbsp
  • Garam masala - 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder- 1/4 tbsp
  • Oil - 3 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds (for seasoning)
  • Curry leaves - 4 or 5 leaves
  • Salt to taste

  1. Pressure cook potatoes in water until they are soft.
  2. Allow to cool and peel off the skin.
  3. Cut the potatoes into cubes.
  4. In a bowl, add red chilly powder, garam masala, turmeric powder, salt and mix them together.
  5. Add the boiled potatoes into the mixture and mix well so that the masala is well coated on the potatoes.
  6. Allow to marinate for half an hour.
  7. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds. Once the mustard seeds splutter, add curry leaves.
  8. Add the marinated potatoes and stir fry them in a slow flame until the potatoes are crisp and golden brown.
  9. Now spicy potato fry is ready.
